Biographies
 E.
Berry Summerour II, Managing Director
As a Principal in the firm, Berry brings over
ten years of investment banking, market research and venture
development experience ranging from private placements of equity
and business plan writing to market research and consulting,
all primarily in the Agricultural Life Sciences industry. Most
notably Berry served as Vice President of Agricultural Biotechnology & Agribusiness
in the Life Sciences Equity Research Group at Stephens, Inc.
At Stephens, he was instrumental in conducting IPOs in the agricultural
biotechnology industry including Paradigm Genetics and EDEN BioScience.
Berry also orchestrated several agricultural biotechnology private
investments for Stephens Group including Sangamo BioSciences,
AgraQuest, AviGenics and the Burrill & Company Biotechnology
Fund. In addition, he held previous positions with American Cyanamid
Crop Protection and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service.
Berry services on several agricultural and biotech
Boards, Councils technology transfer funds and industry associations.
He is also a Managing Principal of Knowledge Deployment, Inc.
He grew up on a cattle ranch in Texas , earned his BS in Agricultural
Economics and an MBA from Texas A&M University and has authored/co-authored
numerous agricultural publications. Berry also holds Series 7
and 63 licenses.
 Doug
Fisher, Managing Director
Doug comes to ACALA PARTNERS, INC. with lengthy
and broad experience as legal counsel and an executive for established
and emerging agricultural businesses and law firms. As Senior
Counsel at Fulbright & Jaworski, he provided capital raising,
contract, licensing, intellectual property and technology transfer
advice for a variety of agribusinesses, biotech and high-tech
companies. Doug brings significant experience in product development,
intellectual property strategy and licensing, M&A, capital
raising, financing, strategic planning, organizational restructuring,
licensing, risk management and dispute resolution. As Senior
VP and General Counsel for AgriBioTech, Inc. General Counsel
for Seminis, Inc. and Deputy General Counsel for DEKALB Genetics
Doug has obtained a unique blend of multi disciplinary, hands-on,
practical corporate experience, providing advice and solutions
in key operating, financing, restructuring, patenting and legal
matters. Prior to his agricultural involvement he gained legal
experience in large case litigation, antitrust and trade regulation,
contracts at prominent New York and Chicago law firms.
Doug is from Minnesota where he obtained his
B.A. from Gustavus Adolpus and his J.D from the University of
Minnesota . He is a member of the New York , Illinois and Texas
bars and the Licensing Executives Society.
